For followers of Jesus Christ, the significance of the mission to disseminate the good news of Jesus to the world is generally evident. Jesus imparted his final directives to the disciples: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19). God invites individuals to respond to His grace by participating in this crucial endeavor on earth. His desire is for everyone to comprehend that the purpose of life is to experience God's love through Jesus Christ.
The enjoyment derived from being served is a common experience. However, this can lead to the misconception that our lives will achieve fulfillment solely through the services provided by others. Such erroneous beliefs often result in the pursuit of wealth or other material possessions to satisfy personal desires.
True fulfillment is attained by engaging in God’s mission. We are designed by God to have a purpose that extends beyond our individual selves. We are created for service. When we serve, we achieve greater fulfillment compared to when we are served. This is what God enables us to do, by His grace, through Jesus Christ.
Participation in God’s mission assists in safeguarding our relationships with one another. For instance, it is understood that to maintain a healthy church, a focus on mission is essential. A mission that transcends personal interests brings us back to embracing a higher purpose. In instances of conflict, the question can be posed, “What is our mission?” This refocuses attention from personal desires to God’s mission, fostering healthier relationships within the community.
