God’s Christmas Mirror: Reflections of Grace

How Does God Give Us a Mirror for Christmas?

In ancient times, mirrors were made from polished metal. Those who did not own such mirrors would gaze into water to see their reflection. If someone from that era received a modern mirror as a Christmas present, it would be an extraordinary gift, something remarkable and valuable.

Jesus Christ: The Divine Mirror

When God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, at Christmas, He gave us a mirror unlike any other. Through Jesus, we can see our true selves—not just our physical appearance, but our spiritual condition. This mirror reveals our inability to achieve righteousness on our own and highlights our deep need for grace.

The Disciples’ Reflection and Jesus' Teaching

As Jesus walked with His disciples, they listened intently to His teachings and pondered His words. At one point, they asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus answered, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:25-26). This exchange shows that human effort alone cannot lead to salvation; only God’s grace can accomplish what seems impossible.

Standing Before God’s Mirror

God invites us to stand before His mirror, to let go of self-reliance and place our hope in Jesus. This spiritual reflection guides us toward His grace. Jesus did not simply die on the cross and declare the work finished; He also lived among people, teaching and guiding them to recognize their need for grace, as revealed in God’s mirror.

Grace: The Greatest Gift

We do not need to be afraid to look into this mirror. When we honestly measure ourselves against God’s standards and reflect deeply, we discover God’s greatest gift—the grace of Jesus Christ. This grace is what makes us right before God and brings us true peace and hope.
